haider : TO SEE OR NOT TO SEE ???

I am not a film critic and neither this write up is  an aspirational narrative to become one. A film called "Haider" supposedly to mimic the magic of  Shakespear's play Hamlet does manage to live up to the expectations of the so called intelligent viewers and if I am not wrong  the movie is gaining momentum in winning "all sorts" of critical acclaims: reason being the disguised convenience that it takes in the form of  an antithetical stance from the mainstream and populist  belief about J&K militants. It allegedly engages one to attempt to unhinge one's  illusionary ideas about terrorists and their agenda, but in fact  as I see it  is  the rhetoric of the starcast of the likes of Tabbu,  K.K. Menon, and of course Shahid Kapoor that superficially aides  one in suggesting "it ought to be good ". or may be even "it ought to be true."The movie is doing good in the market , no doubt about it. But is it worth ?  Is business the yard stick of artistic value ? Or can one safely assume that in the age of IT revolution  mass and class happen to be the same ? I was really not surprised to hear a large section of  the audience clap after the show at the Phoenix Mall, Chennai. The premises on which any kind of inference could be drawn are definitely many and hence renders the debate open ended.

There is no doubt that the movie irrespective of  flotsam and jetsam of delving into  the rights or wrongs  about either of the perspectives, is loosely connected and nowhere close to a captivating theatrical extravaganza on the lines of  the HAMLET. While I was coming out of the theater only one thought came to my mind "kisi ne cake ke naam par halua khila diya " aor maze ki baat thi ki khaane ke baad bhi logon ne kaha "cake  bahot badhiya tha" Is the discerning palate itself flawed ? Or an investment in the form of a movie ticket  nullifies any deliberate attempt to command re-posturing of the opinion even if one has an urge to do so ? In either of the cases no wonder that the "payers" would indiscreetly and unseemingly continue to benefit the rising interests based on consumerism in the much changing economy and that's not refutable if we see how the market forces have surreptitiously taken over as agents  of "Crony Capitalism" since the much celebrated post 1991 era. Can anyone imagine what kind of HEAVEN India is, especially considering the kind of market size (consumers) it has? On top of that lulling effect of movies like Haider  serves as an icing on the cake in habituating the consumers to conveniently turn their heads off and to preferably develop an akin to not to have a mind of their own. The consumers at large of which an important section is a  movie goer are thus deliberated to be intellectually poisoned and rendered gullible, and hence virtually enslaved to suit a capitalist's exploitative regime.

Shouldn't we accept this dichotomy ? Shouldn't we muster enough of wisdom ( a fight within ) and courage (a fight outside) to "call spade a spade", specially when it comes to make a distinction between HALUA  AND CAKE, or even the capacity to to give preference to SHUDH  hulua       (NFDC league )  over  MISHRIT cake ( desi version of supposedly tainted and imported themes like in this case HAMLET ) when it requires to practice the nationalistic economics ?

ye jo beh raha hai samay sa kal tumko, mujhko, sabko
aateet ki gehrayion mein dubo jaayega

aor bhoot, vartmaan, evam bhavishya ke antar  ki
 saari gan-naon ki mrityu mein

husrat ki kopal  jeevit mann mei ug jaati

aor jaate jaate ahankaari Raavan ki atta-haasi
swar mein "jeevan" ya swayam "samay"
ke jeevit hone ke prashn ka kshobh-mukut
 sabko pehna kar jaayega.

ye "fugly" "fugly" kya hain ...???

Rememeber the famous late 90's TV advertisement "Ye PSPO nahi janta "  ? The "fugly-fugly"  song  perhaps comes as no surprise as a continuation of a gimmickry  in order to find its way to the latest Bollywood songs hits. People these days can no longer afford to hum songs which encapsulate some substantial meaning or are possibly vocally demanding, instead they show preference towards easy and economically "mimic-able" ( ...if possible)choices. The social trend over the past decade echoes a paradigmatic change in  the  way we define entertainment or may be the way we define our selves; for that matter our fooding habits; fast food for instance, our dating patterns; the idea of "love" seems to have almost evaporated, and moreover our growing affection towards the "instant" gratifications. The dismantling of adherence to 'a' set of ideals has significantly contributed  to the kind of choices  today we make to assert categorically the kind of person we are. Here, prerogative of discretion is nevertheless being detested, instead the deliberated  divorce of correspondence with the cognition is  being scrutinized to be deplorable. The yesteryear  generation's legacy of lingering and contemplating demeanor seems to have been done away with, taken over by  behavioral instances and practices marked by gullibility  or "antic disposition".

I am helplessly being reminded of another famous 90's TV advertisement "Ab dobara mut pooncchna". I wonder that media and entertainment industry  thrive on the fact that existing generation do not have a mind of their "own"; that the generation continues and  will continue to  rejoice and "relish" whatever comes its way. The facet helps the "popular" political propagandists prosper as well. Should we celebrate or denounce such a form of non involvement with the self or self afflicted ignorance ? I suppose the majority of us would find such an inquisition  as nonsensical simply because of affiliation with the dictum "Ignorance is bliss". The minority, however would find the idea of denouncing the paradigm shift towards one's "increased" suggestibility as intellectually taxing. Should one not ask one self an obvious question "Whose life is it any way ?". How many of us would acknowledge the proliferating travesty and say  honestly  " Sorry not our's, we are least involved with it ! ".

khamoshi...!!!

khamoshi... kaash tu meri mehbooba hoti
to dil ki dhadkan seene mei hi paibast hoti
na tum mujhse kucch kehti, na mai tumse kucch kehta
bus isharon - isharon mei hi zindagi jawaan hoti

chand siskiyon  mei hi sahi, akele hi see leta

khudi ke bojh tale daba pada ye aashique
na tumse kabhi milta, aur na hi tum mujhse kabhi milti
bus ankhon-hi-ankhon mei mohabbat hairan hoti
khud se bina chhipaye aur kisi se bina bataye
thoda tum ro leti, thoda mai ro leta
shayad tum thoda hus leti,  shayad mai  thoda hus leta

jo kabhi na shuru ho saki
wo kahani kabbhi khatam to na hoti
tumse be-wajah, be- sabab baat karne ki uljhan to na hoti
zindagi aur maut ki kashmakash  mei
har lamha, taah-umr meri bojhal saanse
bus tumhari aks ki maujudgi mei hi apni zindagi fanaa karti
kaash... khamoshi.. tu meri mehbooba hoti

so.. You say ...You are in Love..??

There was a boy and he was madly in love with a girl.He was obsessed with her charms but could not communicate his feelings to her, till some point of time he presented himself as a reticent admirer and then one fine day he mustered enough of audacity to walk up to the girl and voice his feelings for her. The girl seemed unmoved and asked him to prove his affection by giving her a red rose : a "red " rose. The boy happily engaged himself in the search for a red rose, but after a long and exhaustive search what he found was utter disappointment since he could not find one .

It was a hot summer day, he sat below a shady tree and kept on lamenting till he was about to burst out into tears. He could not help crying and really cried buckets of water. All this was being observed by a Bulbul (a bird.. that everyone knows..) ; she felt sympathetic towards the lover and told him not to cry . She promised him that she would get him the gift for his love:the RED ROSE. After some search she found a beautifully blossomed rose that it was not RED , it was WHITE suggesting nothing but it's pristine existence. Purposely Bulbul clung herself to the thorny shrub and started singing a love song while she beat her breast against the thorns.Blood kept oozing out and miraculously the flower showed up as red. Bulbul died as she had shed even the last drop of her blood for the sacred cause:LOVE

The boy felt sorry and sighed for the bird and on a desperate and thankful note he plucked the gift of love from the thorny shrub and went straight to his girl and presented her the RED ROSE.The girl gave a sarcastic smile and said " I expected something more valuable, you could have bought me a diamond ring, what would I do with this flower ? ". The boy could not say anything, his heart was broken . He shook his head in despair and threw the RED ROSE in the dust.

Philosophy :mental acrobatics...!!!

a mathematician asks a philosopher "Why are we alive ?"
the philosopher replies " Because one day we all have to die !"

There is always some connotation and indentation subdued in any kind of logical representation such as "language" .Pure logic fails to illuminate such paradigms so much so that in an attempt to make it an exact and objective proposition, renders it uninteresting, and murders the scope of plurality of interpretations. The cognizance of the fact that mathematics is only the means not the end should help us not to fall victim to any kind of complacency attached with the accomplishment of a logical feat .Language (logic)is not sufficient, it's the literature (imagination ) that matters. There are greener pastures ahead and at least in this context it's quite unharmful to be able to suggest to ourselves that grass is always greener on the other side of the fence called "logic". THY NAME IS PHILOSOPHY.

Please help the author resolve the ebullient conflict (if it at all exists...!!) between logic and imagination by choosing the correct option:

a) The author of the above logically illogical lines is a staunch believer of logic.
b)The author of the above illogically logical lines is a staunch believer of logic.
c)The author of the above logically illogical lines is a staunch believer of imagination.
 d) The author of the above illogically logical lines is a staunch believer of imagination.
e)The author has made an illogical attempt to establish the celibacy of the idea of logic from an anti perspective by patronizing the beauty of imagination.
 f) The author has made a logical attempt to establish the celibacy of logic from an anti perspective by patronizing the beauty of imagination.

Hint(if at all the author himself is in a position to be able to suggest one...!): the beauty lies in the overwhelming bafflement with the problem and not in the attainment of the solution . Don't we celebrate Prince Hamlet's soliloquy :"To be or not to be" in William Shakespear's Classic Hamlet ?

IshQ, Dosti, Mohabbat and all that...!!!

"Love" perhaps, happens to be the most complicated of all the emotions mankind has ever known.Whatever I have understood up till now helps me to conjecture that as opposed to popular belief; 'love is selfless', love is something that helps us to become more selfish, adds more meaning to self existence and adds new dimensions to self indulgence and gratification. We continue to live in an age when "Barter system" is still not done away with and is practiced in disguised forms with celebrated names, one such fancy name being "love": a convenient mechanism that aids transactions at subliminal levels which of course helps to grandiose self image and affects ego inflation. The engaged beings make their best efforts to strike the best "deal" not only in the material sense but also in metaphysical terms as well. Those in love would indiscreetly continue to remain as participants in a "giver and recipient" relationship in "anticipation" of reaping the benefits of self glorification when exact and equal worth things are "finally" transacted.

Alas...!!! Human mind gets biased while measuring the worth of the entities or things involved, may be just because of the fear of disengagement with the "deal" itself. This results in a situation of cautious optimism and pleasant confusion which furthers the chances of inception of "nebulous" things in the ongoing transaction elevating the complexity level of judging or evaluating the situation so much so that the well within the reach "thing" becomes a "dream". If the initial investments and stakes are high, then there are chances that the "lovers" would continue to make efforts towards the realization of the thing: " the dream ".

The "hazy" nature of the business makes the task inexact and thus presents it as interesting and so is conceived as more joyful. In due course of time the associated "joy" element supplants the attainment of the "equilibrium" ( the deal: the "dream" ) as a priority and the initial agreed upon terms slowly but surely are forgotten, rendered as obsolete, and new rules of the game are sought after. And with the passage of time it evolves in a complicated fashion leaving one amused. Mathematically "Love" can be construed as a "Stochastic Game" and hence non deterministic and perhaps that's why it is a form of celebrated and cerebrally rewarding
human emotion.
